Post Brexit Blues

Date published: Friday 1st of July 2016

There is no doubt that the Brexit thing has been both a shock and a downer. Now, I happened to vote for Leave and I also made money by shorting the US stock market and the British Pound on the night of the vote.

You'd think I'd be totally delighted right now, right? Well, not quite.

What has became abundantly clear - one week on from the Brexit vote - is that the leaders of the Leave campaign are utterly clueless. Clearly, they didn't expect to win. Clearly, they haven't thought things through. Clearly, they don't have a plan. Clearly, the UK government is now in tatters.

I always knew that the Pound would get whacked if Leave won. I even suspected that the UK economy would go through a very rough couple of years. However, to me, that was worth going through for a wide variety of reasons. Let me quickly give you a few of them:

* Islamic terrorist attacks are now a weekly occurrence across Europe. Controlling borders strikes me as being a perfectly logical and sensible thing to do, given the circumstances and the threat that we're currently facing.

* The EU is a rich boy's club, which allows huge corporations like Starbucks to rake in massive fortunes whilst paying little or no tax.

* Free movement of people equates to cheap labour. I'm not entirely enthusiastic about cheap labour. I'd like people who have jobs to get paid decent wages.

* As a UK tax-payer, I find some of the benefits loophole (created by the EU) to be deeply unfair, unethical and disgusting. Somebody needs to close loopholes like this!

* I also have concerns about the big white elephant in the room. Islam.

It is my belief that the German government made a terrible mistake when they welcomed one and a half million Muslim refugees into their country, without a single ballot paper being cast. Don't get me wrong, I think we're all created equally. I also think that the West created many of the problems in the Middle East and we have a responsibility to fix the problems that we (the West) have created. Some of my best friends are Muslim (you knew I'd say that, right?). However, I think that Germany is already facing huge social, health and economic stresses - and those problems are going to get worse - all because of decisions made by Angela Merkel. There is certainly no doubt that the UK has some really incompetent politicians, but what Merkel has done takes the biscuit!

I don't want the UK to make the same mistakes that Germany has made. I think Islamification of Europe is a problem. I don't like having Halal slipped into school menus. Any organisation that's responsible for four million female genital mutilations per year, countless beheadings, that calls for the killing of gays or the stoning women who commit adultery is pretty far from cool, in my book. I'm concerned about these things. I think these concerns are all reasonable and legitimate.

Now, here we are a week after the Brexit vote and it looks like the UK is suffering all of the economic pain of Brexit but with none of the rewards. In other words, NOTHING HAS CHANGED AND NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE.

All week, politicians from all sides have been saying that "free movement of people" (i.e., cheap labour) must continue at all costs. That is why the stock markets have rebounded. The only real change on the ground is that I have to pay approximately ten percent more, any time I want to pay for a product or service that comes from another country.

What bothers me most of all is the thought that I can't say any of the things I've just said, without some bleeding heart lefty calling me 'racist' or even bringing Hitler into the conversation. It's pathetic, it's intellectually bankrupt and I'm sad to say that it's even happening here at the Insider Club!.

So, do I regret voting Leave? You're damn right I do!
